Japan - Day 5 - Motomachi Chuukagai or Chinatown
On Thursday of last week, I went to the largest Chinatown in Japan. It was over in Yokohama and I spent about an hour getting there from Tokyo. Interesting place but not very Chinese. Its very apparent that the Chinatown was catered to the Japanese market. All the chinese food displays in the restaurant windows looked distinctly "japanized". There were a lot of dishes that I didn't recognize... They did sell mooncakes though, and I saw one small stall selling egg tarts. Oh how I wish I could eat the egg tarts from Jasmine back in San Diego. Love them! Some pictures so you can get a better idea of what its like. Tralala...

Ichiba douri. There are many entrances/gates to Chinatown and this is one of them.

Shop selling chinese foodstuffs. All very very expensive. I came here hoping to buy ingredients so I could cook but only ended up buying green beans, barley and century eggs cos everything else was so darn expensive. Shiitake mushrooms, abalone and what not... the prices were through the roof. Daylight robbery!

Yamashita Kouen. Nice park, nothing much to do though. A park's a park.

Ship anchored in the harbor. So pretty the lights.

Walking along the pathway in the park. That there in the bottom left corner is Mr Chew Jia Wei, a Malaysian I met in Japan who's studying pharmacy in NUS. It is a small, small world.

Had to walk through Chinatown again to get back to the train station. Looks nicer at night I think.
