Leisurely Saturday
Spent Saturday morning packing and then I headed downtown to say hi to my friends at the hotel and do some shopping. It was nice, sometimes there was a bit of sun. Anytime we see the Sun here we're like yay!
Bought presents for people back home and some clothes for myself. Went to the bank, Abercrombie and JC Penney. Kaching kaching! Goodbye money, hello material goods. After that it was over to the weekend market for some corn fritters and honey butter. When I first came here, I read in my Lonely Planet guide to Alaska that people come here for a holiday, eat the king crab and then just never leave. Now I can totally relate to that! Alaskan food is actually really quite good. The seafood is to-die-for. Whether deep fried, in chowders, in pasta, its all good. And corn fritters... I will miss them so much! In commemoration of Alaska and its food, which I am leaving in 3 days time -
Favourite fish: Halibut
Favourite crab: King Crab
Favourite shellfish: Scallops (BIG ones)
Favourite cured meat: Black Forest ham
Favourite unhealthy food: Corn fritters with honey butter
Favourite pasta: Seafood pasta at a restaurant called La Scala. Best I've ever had.
Favourite breakfast spot: Snow City
Favourite chicken wings: Wings n Things
...and I do hope I haven't left anything out. Just now I was talking to my mom on Skype and I said I had some King Crab. She replied that yah, Sri Lanka crab is smaller. I kindly enlightened her that the sizes of those 2 crabs were on a totally different scale - the single King Crab leg that I bought from the grocery store is the length of my arm! (A little longer, actually) Tee hee hee. Imagine the actual crab. Must be some kind of monster.
Pictures of my other bellmen friends at the hotel:
Wilson, who reminds us of a raccoon. He's a 老色鬼 who forgets he has a wife anytime he sees a hot babe :D
So next I wanted to take a photo with Amor. Without warning the fella picks me up off the ground and Wilson had gleefully taken a shot. People inside and out of the hotel were all staring! Wah I was so embarassed I ran off. Haha. Cannot show my shocked and unglam expression so I replaced it with a suitable illustration.
I always thought I wanted a smart husband, but maybe a strong one will be good enough.
Joking!
