Juneau Escapades

Went to Juneau for about five days after Tricia got here. Juneau is an awesome town (a city, even the capital by Alaskan standards only) that is kinda like a mini San Francisco cos there are lots of houses on hills. Its surrounded by mountains and water and is not accessible by road. Having said that, its got the most spectacular glaciers one could ask for and I was lucky enough to be able to see them by sea, air and land!

En route to see the Sawyer Glacier in Tracy Arm Fjord

The colorations on the seal bodies are so pretty...

It was a terribly overcast day (read: cold and windy) but that just makes the blues in the ice more striking.

A US Coast Guard icebreaker was going on a test run

Saw pods of whales repeatedly breaching the surface. Didn't really get good shots though.

Spent the next day walking around the city and hitting the usual tourist spots.

The Alaska State Capitol

The Juneau-Douglas Museum, and the background gives you an idea of what Juneau is like.

The Herbert Glacier Experience

The landscapes formed by nature are amazing

The pilot landed on this ridiculously small-looking piece of ice and we all got out to walk on the glacier in our crampon boots.

All of us on the tour!

The resident bald eagle which can't be released due to injuries

Mendenhall Glacier

3 real bears - a mama with a salmon in her mouth and her 2 cubs

That's pretty much the end of the Juneau trip. Very fruitful!
